GRADE: 4 LENGTH: 700m
BUILT: Rebuilt in 2015 after most of the area was harvested.
GETTING THERE: From the intersection of Nursery and Tokorangi Pa Roads, head up Tokorangi Pa through a stand of young redwoods. The trail entry is to the left as you exit the redwoods into a clearfelled area.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The trail climbs gently through one of the few remaining stands of Californian Redwoods in the forest before breaking into clearfell area. At the top There are great views over Lake Rotorua, Mokoia Island and Mt. Ngongotaha.
Drop your seat height for the descent, there is little pedalling required now. Flowing, bermed corners snake across the clearfell area before entering into the treeline of Eucalyptus gum trees. The trail from here is mostly the original Old Exit trail which was untouched by the forestry operations. Some corners have been realigned and improved to ensure a smooth flow all the way to the exit
GETTING OUT: The trail exits at the same spot as the old one - at the bottom of the tar seal road of Nursery Road. From here you'll head out on the flat tar seal of Long Mile Road if you want to finish there (and came in from that side of the forest). Or turn left up the tar seal climb of Nursery Road. The climb is a bit of a drag for many riders, but doesn't last too long.
