TE TIHI-O-TAWA
GRADE: 3/4 Length: 2.4kms.
BUILT: By Richard Caudwell and a small band of trail pixies. Opened in December 2011. This trail is in place thanks to Tuhourangi and the Department of Conservation, particularly Simon Alefosio-Tuck.
GETTING THERE: From the summit of Tawa Rd. take the Tuhoto entrance and Te Tihi o Tawa branches to the right about 50m in (it is clearly signposted).
Get there with a 5 minute climb from the shuttle drop off, or do it under your own steam.
TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The trail has smooth flow with many intense rooty sections. Because it is in native bush it gets slippery, particularly across the roots, if youi don't like that kind of thing, steer clear.
GETTING OUT:
Tihi O Tawa drops onto the lower section of Billy T trail. At the end of Billy T there are a multitude of options - head left up Moerangi road to access Split Enz, Kung Fu Walrus and Rocky Horror.
Or turn right and hook a left into G-rock (which flows on to Chestnut Link, Rollercoaster and Moonshine) to deliver you close to the Shuttle pick up point, or closer to the Waipa MTB carpark.
