YELLOW BRICK ROAD

GRADE: 2. LENGTH: 2.6km (for the full loop trail).

BUILT: The original one way trail to Sandy Skid Rd. was built in 2007 by Murray Avery and his whanau (Maori for family).
The return trail making Yellow Brick Rd. into a loop track was completed in 2016 by Southstar Trails.

GETTING THERE: Starts from Reservoir Rd at the bottom end of Hill Rd and ends on String Rd. where riders can head up towards New Pondy.
Or take the return trail to get back to the start point.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Starts with a steady, zig-zag climb to avoid the tar seal 8-Mile Gate Rd (which is off limits to bikers) to get up Sandy Skid Rd to Pondy New trail.
It's a well-built track that holds up to all weather. The hill side is steep but the gradient and switch backs are well-designed and constructed, allowing you to power up it.
At the top it runs around the ridge line before a short, steep descent to Sandy Skid Rd. and on up the road to Pondy New Trail, or loop around to return to the start point.
All weather winner.

GETTING OUT: Turn left when you exit on Sandy Skid road, ride up the road to the start of Pondy New.
