TITOKORANGI

GRADE: 3  LENGTH: 2.1KM(including the exit via Turkish Delight trail)

BUILT: by Rotorua Mountain Bike Club, Casey King and Mark Upshall (Spadewerx) and volunteers - Sept/Oct 2012

MASSIVE REBUILD in 2023 by Empire of Dirt.

GETTING THERE: The most common route is to climb the steady gradient of Katore Road to the top. When the climb levels out at a junction, take the left turn and a short distance along a sign on the right marks the trail to the top of the hill and the Tokorangi entry, which is right next to the harder grade Corridor trail.. If entering the forest from the Long Mile Drive/Tarawera Road side take the As You Do Trail. This climbs steadily, crosses Tokorangi Pa Road and finishes on a link road. Go right here, then shortly after the brow of the hill there is a link trail on the left, straight ahead after that and the trail entry is on the right.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION:
Permission for this build was granted by the local Iwi, Ngati Whakaue who are in charge of the Tokorangi triangle of land on the ridge above the city. Toko means 'to prop up' while Rangi refers to the 'sky'. The position of this track on the high point of the ridge makes this name very appropriate. The trail meanders down the northern slope of the hill overlooking Rotorua City and Lake Rotorua. Fast and flowy, with berms but no real jumps to speak of, this is pump and roll territory. After the initial young pine plantation the trail drops into native bush and mature pine forest then links with Turkish Delight.

GETTING OUT: The trail exits on to Tokorangi Pa Road and you can follow road down to Nursery Road, or hang a right and you are on the Whaka Forest Loop route. Very soon the trail be extended on the north side of Tokorangi Pa Road and will exit much further down the hill.
